It was great to see the kids last week! We had an awesome first day, and they kids all showed up ready to sing. We were missing a few kids because of the foot ball games, but they still have more then enough time to catch up.
Jr Choir
I just love this group. They had so much fun with the new songs. I can tell they've been waiting to sing again. They picked up the songs really good. If you could help them this week by playing the songs whenever you get a chance. Some of the best times are when your driving around.
New Songs:
Roar - Katy Perry
Somebody Watching me - (remix)

Did amazing. They came in focused and ready to get to work. They absolutely loved the songs we picked out. They are challenging songs but I know they can handle it, especially if they practice outside of class. Please have them practice, practice, practice and learn the lyrics.

Sr choir 7 - 8
*please let your friends and family know so they can sign up too.....
We are getting close to the end of June term, time goes by fast. Your kids have been so great to work with and are picking up on the songs quickly. Please PRACTICE....PRACTICE....PRACTICE.
I have attached all the songs they will be singing and the next 2 weeks will be very important, so please try to have them in class and practice their songs. I will be recording a sample and uploading it Saturday night with the way that we will be singing the song so they can practice.
All kids need to have the school of pop t-shirt to perform. There is a link at the top "Order Shirts" please make sure to order them by June 27th. Include their shirt size (in the comments when ordering).
*If your child already has a shirt from last term you don't not need to order them, keep in mind this will be a different design.
Thank you for bringing you child to class and helping them grow in there singing. I love seeing parents that care so much!!!!!
Last night was such a great turn out. The kids came ready to sing and really had the chance to express themselves. I will post important information here so you can stay up to date on whats going on with the choir.
JR CHOIR -
Did an amazing job. I absolutely love the fact that we have a good mix of boys and girls. The kids started off a little shy, but by the end of the night they were letting loose. I think that every Friday their shyness will disappear. Yesterday we learned a new song, Our goal is to learn 2 songs, but there's a chance because we only have 1 month that we might only learn 1 song. I will watch them and see how much they can handle.
Practice:
If you can practice with them these 2 songs outside of class. They will be able to learn 2 songs. It's very important that they practice and learn the lyrics the best they can. I'm so excited with how much they have already learned in the first day.
Songs:
Hold my hand - Michael Jackson & Akon
Lean on me - Bill Withers
* keep in mind, it would be best if they learn the whole song, there's a chance we will not sing the entire song it will be edited in a way that is best for the class and decided by the Director. Below are links to the songs we will be singing if they need to practice. Another good idea is to have them practice to karaoke versions.
SR CHOIR -
These guys are ready to hit the stage. They had a really good practice yesterday and I think they will do fine on the 2 songs. Each of them yesterday sang solos already in front of the class. At first they were nervous, but it really helped for them to see the kids from last term get up and sing and not be shy. Our new additions to the class stepped it up and I was surprised they sang a solo on their first day....They all did Aca-Awesome.
Practice:
Please practice the two songs we learned and memorize the lyrics. I will be auditioning next week for solo parts. They each need to be prepared to come to class with a 30 second solo. It can be any song, try to keep it to 30 seconds. Last term everyone had a blast doing this. They will also be recorded. Let me know if you do not want you child's recording on the website.
If you interested in trying a class, come try for $5. If you end up signing up that same day we will apply the $5 towards your $20 tuition. So no more excuses come try our the school of pop!!!!!!!!!
Everyone needs to have a school of pop shirt. They will just be the shirt with our logo. If you need a shirt please go click on the buy now and purchase it. Every child needs to have a shirt in order to perform next week.
So we have made it to the half way point!! I can't believe how fast the term has already gone. Here's what we did last week and what to prepare for this week.
Jr. Choir - We are really trying to learn the rap part of "Never say Never". Please continue to have your children practice and learn it the best they can. We are also still learning stand by me. We only have a 1 1/2 months left for the recital. This week: We will be learning a new song. So please make sure you come wide awake ready to learn. Don't forget to bring a bottle of water.
Sr. Choir - We have been going over a few songs: Oath, I'm not afraid, What I've done and missing you. The missing you has caused some of the kids to be very emotional. I had the class vote last week if they wanted to continue singing the song or if they would like to try another one. They all voted to sing the song. We are getting better at learning how to sing with emotion and I commend them for learning how to overcome there tears and sing through it, this is really teaching them how music is a huge part of our life and how you can learn to cope and get through moments through singing/rapping. This week: We will be learning a new song and narrowing down solo parts. Please come ready to learn and listen and don't forget a bottle of water. Also every child needs to come ready to sing a solo of a chorus of a song. Try to pick something you have never sang before. Challenge yourself.
Jr choir:
We have been focusing on learning the rap part of " Never say Never." I saw a huge difference in the kids who practiced last week. So please continue to play the songs and have your kids learn the parts. I know the Rap part my seem hard, but when they are in class they pick it up easier with a group. Even if right now they are just saying every other word they are starting to catch on to it faster.
We also did a few beat boxing exercises last week. The kids said they like the videos their parents showed them. We will be focusing on nailing the choreography down for "Stand by Me" and continue learning the entire song of "Never say Never"
Thanks for all you do!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sr choir:
Last week we got in tune with our emotions and learned how to sing with feeling. The kids were introduced to a new song "Missing you" it became very emotional when I asked them to think about someone they were missing or someone who has passed away.
The reason I chose this song is because I wanted to teach the kids how to be able to sing a song that will touch the hearts of others. To be their voice and help them express their feelings through music. We had a lot of the kids get emotional and tears were flowing, but they wanted to try to sing through it.
They realized how powerful music is and how it helps you get in tune for all things.
Solos!!!
Every body sang solos this week and it was absolutely wonderful!!! so we will be doing it again. I was so proud of each one of your kids. They were amazing!!! We were missing 2 of our kids...but they will still have the chance to do solos again.
Learned how to do a little bit of "Stepping" a.k.a "Stomping. This was to help them feel the beat and learn coordination.
We learned 2 new songs. One of them was a mash up with Eminems song "I'm not Afraid" and the other was Katy Perrys "Titanium." We are working on getting this song down better. The other song was Linkin Parks "What I've Done" we will go over this more next week.
We are learning how to break into parts. It's a bit challenging since the kids have not done this before, but we were able to do it today and it sounded very good.
What they can work on for next week:
Show them a youtube video on people stepping. I would love them to see how others feel the beat and enjoy it.
Have them practice the "Oath" song. We will be trying to learn parts soon.
They each will have a 30 second solo due next week. This is for every child in the choir. This will teach them how to perform in front of others and prepare them for auditions. This needs to be no more then 30 seconds so please have them time themselves. They can sing or Rap, whatever song they choose.
