CRUNCH TIME!!
So we have made it to the half way point!! I can't believe how fast the term has already gone. Here's what we did last week and what to prepare for this week.
Jr. Choir - We are really trying to learn the rap part of "Never say Never". Please continue to have your children practice and learn it the best they can. We are also still learning stand by me. We only have a 1 1/2 months left for the recital.
This week: We will be learning a new song. So please make sure you come wide awake ready to learn. Don't forget to bring a bottle of water.
Sr. Choir - We have been going over a few songs: Oath, I'm not afraid, What I've done and missing you. The missing you has caused some of the kids to be very emotional. I had the class vote last week if they wanted to continue singing the song or if they would like to try another one. They all voted to sing the song. We are getting better at learning how to sing with emotion and I commend them for learning how to overcome there tears and sing through it, this is really teaching them how music is a huge part of our life and how you can learn to cope and get through moments through singing/rapping.
This week: We will be learning a new song and narrowing down solo parts. Please come ready to learn and listen and don't forget a bottle of water. Also every child needs to come ready to sing a solo of a chorus of a song. Try to pick something you have never sang before. Challenge yourself.

Beat boxing,Rapping and Solos!! oh My!!!
Jr choir:
We have been focusing on learning the rap part of " Never say Never." I saw a huge difference in the kids who practiced last week. So please continue to play the songs and have your kids learn the parts. I know the Rap part my seem hard, but when they are in class they pick it up easier with a group. Even if right now they are just saying every other word they are starting to catch on to it faster.
We also did a few beat boxing exercises last week. The kids said they like the videos their parents showed them. We will be focusing on nailing the choreography down for "Stand by Me" and continue learning the entire song of "Never say Never"
Thanks for all you do!!!!

Sr choir:
Last week we got in tune with our emotions and learned how to sing with feeling. The kids were introduced to a new song "Missing you" it became very emotional when I asked them to think about someone they were missing or someone who has passed away.
The reason I chose this song is because I wanted to teach the kids how to be able to sing a song that will touch the hearts of others. To be their voice and help them express their feelings through music. We had a lot of the kids get emotional and tears were flowing, but they wanted to try to sing through it.
They realized how powerful music is and how it helps you get in tune for all things.
Solos!!!
Every body sang solos this week and it was absolutely wonderful!!! so we will be doing it again. I was so proud of each one of your kids. They were amazing!!! We were missing 2 of our kids...but they will still have the chance to do solos again.

- Learned choreography for one of there songs "Stand by Me". They are really getting better at this song.
- They also started learning the rap part of "Never say Never" I'm actually surprised how fast they picked it up.
- They started the basics of "Beat Boxing" and everyone took turns making beats for the kids in the class to mimic.
- Ask them if they can sing "Stand by Me" and show you the choreography.
- Help them learn the rap part of "Never say Never" so they feel more comfortable rapping it.
- Show them a video on youtube of some one beat boxing. I'm sure they will LOVE it
- If anyone missed class or was sick just do the following above and they will be fine for next week.

- Learned how to do a little bit of "Stepping" a.k.a "Stomping. This was to help them feel the beat and learn coordination.
- We learned 2 new songs. One of them was a mash up with Eminems song "I'm not Afraid" and the other was Katy Perrys "Titanium." We are working on getting this song down better. The other song was Linkin Parks "What I've Done" we will go over this more next week.
- We are learning how to break into parts. It's a bit challenging since the kids have not done this before, but we were able to do it today and it sounded very good.
- Show them a youtube video on people stepping. I would love them to see how others feel the beat and enjoy it.
- Have them practice the "Oath" song. We will be trying to learn parts soon.
- They each will have a 30 second solo due next week. This is for every child in the choir. This will teach them how to perform in front of others and prepare them for auditions. This needs to be no more then 30 seconds so please have them time themselves. They can sing or Rap, whatever song they choose.
